On behalf of The Dental Council, Lex Consultancy is inviting applications for a permanent position of Executive Officer (EO) grade in Fitness to Practise.
SALARY: Applicants will be appointed at the first point of the EO scale - €38,803*
LOCATION: 57 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, D02 EH90. (Hybrid arrangements available)
ANNUAL LEAVE: 23 working days per annum
INTERVIEW: Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 13th July 2026. (You must be available to attend interview)

The successful candidate will Report to the Head of Fitness to Practise and Legal Affairs the post holder will play a key role in the Dental Council’s complaints process.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist and support the Head of Fitness to Practise and Legal Affairs in the operation of the complaints and Fitness to Practise functions of the Dental Council
- Communicate with the public and dental profession via email and phone in response to queries
- Efficiently and effectively manage own caseload to include case management of complaints as they progress through the disciplinary process
- Act as the main point of contact for all parties to a complaint
- Ensure that the case files are kept fully up to date as each case progresses through the disciplinary process to ensure good operational performance of the Fitness to Practise unit
- Prepare and provide a complete case/complaint file for consideration by the Fitness to Practise Committee/Dental Council
- Assist in the planning and delivery of meetings for the Fitness to Practise Committee as required. From time to time there will be a requirement to work beyond office hours to support FTP inquiries, etc
- Draft minutes of Fitness to Practise Committee/meetings of the Dental Council
- Assist and support the Head of Fitness to Practise and Legal Affairs in the preparation of meetings of the Dental Council under section 44
- Assist and support the Head of Fitness to Practise and Legal Affairs in the gathering of evidence in support of prosecutions under the Dentists Act 1985
- Conduct research to assist in informing policy, procedures, and reports
- Monitoring International Market Information (IMI) system and General Dental Council alerts related to Fitness to Practise
- Attend Dental Council and committee meetings as required
- Assist in corporate governance related activities
- Participate in communication exercises (e.g. discussion forums, external events which the Dental Council may host or attend, website information update)
- Engagement with wider Dental Council departments and stakeholders
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Fitness to Practise and Legal Affairs.
Note: The functions and responsibilities initially assigned to the position(s) are based on the current organisational requirements and may be changed from time to time.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Character:
Each candidate must be of good character.
Health:
Each candidate shall be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Each candidate must meet the following requirements at the time of the competition closing:
Holds a qualification at degree level
Satisfactory experience operating in dynamic and fast-paced administrative environments
Or
Holds a legal qualification at degree/diploma level and has satisfactory post qualification experience.
- Excellent written communication and report writing skills
- Attention to detail, strong organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and operate in a discreet and professional manner
- IT proficiency including use of Word, ADOBE PRO and OneNote
- Ability to interact well as part of a team
- Demonstrates the capabilities set out in the civil service capability framework.
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Legal training or background
- Experience of Fitness to Practise or investigative processes
