Excessive stress can begin to interfere with your productivity and performance, while also impacting upon your emotional and mental health. The ability to deal with stress can often mean the difference between success and failure. Stress can be suffocating however you must remember stress isn’t always a negative!
In today’s workplace, long hours combined with a heavy workload, tight deadlines or difficult challenges can be overpowering and cause an employee to become stressed and anxious. However, there are positive side to stress, such as employee focus, job satisfaction obtained by meeting new challenges and energy levels.
Checkout our list of ways to limit stress in the workplace!
1. Plan
For people with busy schedules it is important to plan out your day and week; setting goals and targets for yourself to work towards. This will allow you to clearly see your work load and prioritise tasks. Tick jobs as they are completed, this creates a sense of achievement. I would advise getting the things you least like doing done first! By doing this, you get the dreaded task out of the way so you can move on. Give this simple task a go and you will start to see a difference in your productivity, anxiety levels and how much you can really achieve.
2. Positive Thinking
Engage in positive thinking. Give yourself a pat on the back every now and then! Give your employees/colleagues a pat on the back too. A simple ‘Well Done’ goes a long way among employees/colleagues in the workplace and increase morale.
3. Get enough sleep
You wouldn’t believe the improvements you can feel from a ‘simple’ good night’s sleep. When your body is lacking in sleep it is harder to concentrate and your day may to be less productive. Try getting a full night’s sleep (recommended 7-8 hours) and before you know it you will feel happier, less stressed and more energetic!
4. Eat healthy
What you eat can have a huge impact on how you feel. Here at Lex we do a monthly healthy eating lunch where we all cook something nice, share recipes and have the chats! Good food makes you feel good!
5. Drink Water
We say hydration is key! It makes you feel refreshed and keeps away those unwanted headaches… We have a water filter in the office and constantly refill our water bottles for our desks. Try to drink at least 2 litres per day and you will notice a huge difference.
6. Exercise
There are many ways of fitting some fitness into your lifestyle. Whether it is your commute to/from work, morning classes or lunchtime workouts. A workout at lunchtime can be quick and fun and often the best way to fit physical activity into a busy lifestyle! Get out of the office, get some fresh air, go for a walk/jog in the nearby park or try a yoga or Pilates class. Or why not give early gym classes a go? Or on those dry mornings opt to walk or cycle to work? This can be great to wake yourself up in the morning.
