Lead Infrastructure Engineer - 6 Month Contractor

A top international law firm in Dublin, with offices in the IFSC, are looking to hire a Lead Infrastructure Engineer. This is a 6 month independent contractor position with a daily rate of €630 -€740 DOE. Ideally, the successful candidate will be available to start immediately.

The Lead Infrastructure Engineer will take responsibility for the design, specification, development, management and ongoing maintenance of the Information Technology and Data Communications infrastructure across the firm’s offices.

This is very much a hands-on role, and deep technical knowledge is required with respect to a number of core infrastructure technologies including HPE ProLiant servers and 3PAR SANs, HPE Aruba networking, and Microsoft core technologies including Hyper-V virtualisation and failover clustering, and Active Directory and Windows Server management.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Takes a lead role in infrastructure planning, implementation and maintenance, assuring adherence to highest industry standards. Architect and implement highly available and stable inter-datacentre solutions leveraging HPE 3PAR CLX and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Oversees the development, management and support of the firms' data communications technology including local and wide area networks.
  • Liaises with telecommunications vendors to deliver stability and value.
  • Leverages Microsoft and third-party technologies to promote efficiently and agility with respect to the delivery and management of Windows servers.
  • Works with the Risk Management team and application managers to ensure that recovery point and time objectives can be met.
  • Security: Collaborates with the IT Security team to help design and support the firms' IT Security systems. Works with the Risk Management team to ensure that appropriate preventative and detective controls are in place in the infrastructure in order to protect the integrity, confidentiality and accessibility of the firms' data.
  • Participates in projects: Plans and implements infrastructure for new systems, new offices, and system upgrades.
  • Documentation: Develops and maintains technical documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Operational Duties: Oversees scheduled operational duties including systems capacity and performance checks, and verification of scheduled operational procedures. Assists in the resolution of operational issues where required.
  • Monitoring: Monitors performance and capacity metrics across the infrastructure to optimise performance and prevent downtime. Identifies performance bottlenecks and implement fixes accordingly.
  • Acts as a technical evangelist to ensure that the firms' return on technology investment is maximised.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual IT budget and ensures that the IT expenditure on global IT Infrastructure adheres to fiscal controls by monitoring financials during the course of the year.
  • Carries out any other duties commensurate with the purpose of the job.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in in a senior IT role, and demonstrable experience managing multi-disciplined teams.
  • A BSc degree in Computer Science or other relevant discipline.
  • Experience working with HPE ProLiant servers, 3PAR SANs, and Cluster Extension (CLX) software.
  • Experience with datacentre networking.
  • Experience with the support of Microsoft servers to include proficiency in PowerShell, DSC, Group Policy management, SCCM.
  • Relevant professional certifications that validate the fundamental skills required to manage the above technologies:
    • HPE ASE or Master ASE certification and/or
    • HP Aruba ACSA or ASA, Cisco CCNP or CCIE certification and/or
    • MCSE certification

  • Ability to function efficiently and autonomously to achieve key strategic goals for the team, and effectively manage time across parallel work streams;
  • Ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels of the organisation, both verbally and in writing;
  • Good grammatical skills and the ability to prepare quality documentation, reports and training materials;
  • Reliability and attention to detail.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
You will work extensively with teams and infrastructure located across Asia, EMEA and the Americas regions, and you must have the ability and willingness to work outside normal working hours and travel to overseas offices as required.
