The Maritime Area Regulatory Authority, or MARA, is a new state agency that was established on 17th July 2023. MARA’s functions are set out in the Maritime Area Planning Acts 2021 and 2022, and it will have a key role to play in the new streamlined consenting system for the maritime area.
MARA is a body under the aegis of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications and is located in Wexford.
